ust three MotoGP seats remain unconfirmed
For 2008
02/10/07 10:09

With the ‘rider roundabout' having started exceptionally early this season, only three seats remain up for grabs in MotoGP teams for the forthcoming season.

Three teams have yet to confirm their 2008 line-up: Gresini Honda, Pramac d'Antin Ducati and Yamaha Tech 3.

Of the three, the Yamaha riders seem closest to being confirmed. An official announcement over the summer break broke the news of James Toseland's arrival in the World Championship as part of the satellite team, although no statement has been made about his future team-mate. Colin Edwards is believed to be continuing his association with Yamaha with a switch to Herve Poncharal's outfit, although there has as yet been no statement from the team.

Gresini Honda will adjust to life without Marco Melandri in 2008 by bringing in another young rider: 250cc standout Alex de Angelis. The remaining spot in the Honda satellite team is uncertain, with Toni Elias yet to be assured of a ride for next season. Other riders linked with a place in the team include Shinya Nakano in a sideways step from Konica Minolta Honda.

Pramac d'Antin Ducati are the team with the most uncertain line up of all. Sylvain Guintoli has been drafted in to occupy one of the Ducati machines next season, but Alex Barros' future is unknown despite his holding a two year contract.

The termination of Alex Hofmann's contract after Portugal means that one of the riders to start the 2007 season will certainly play no part in the team's 2008 campaign, and names being put forward for a possible switch are Elias and Chaz Davies, who will ride the last three races of the season with the team looking to establish his credentials.
